Duane "Doo" Maidens, ceo and co-founder
Duane Michael Maidens is co-founder and manages our Portland office. He and co-founder Daniel Patrick O’Brien launched Michael Patrick Partners in 1979. As an art director, creative director, and designer, Doo has received awards from ADDY, American Corporate Identity, AR100, CASE, Communication Arts (CA), Creativity Books, Graphic Design usa (GDUSA), Graphis, New York Art Directors, PRINT, Rosey Awards, San Francisco Advertising Association, Simpson Paper Company, and The West Coast Show, among others. He’s a member of AIGA. He and his wife own two crazy Weimaraners, and he has multiple cowboy hats but no horse.
Dan O’Brien, president and co-founder
Daniel Patrick O’Brien is co-founder, creative director, and manages our Menlo Park office. His work as a designer, art director, and creative director has received awards from ADDY, American Corporate Identity, Black Book’s AR100, CA, Creativity Books, GDUSA, Graphis, LogoLounge, Mead Annual Report Show, New York Art Directors, PRINT, Potlatch Annual Report Show, San Francisco Advertising Association, The West Coast Show, and a bunch more. Dan has taught advanced design at San José State University, and is a member of AIGA and the Western Art Directors Club. He is a current board member of Rebuilding Together Peninsula, and a past board member of Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his efforts, including the “Ronnie Award” for Outstanding Community Volunteer from the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. Dan is a world champion domino player (in his dreams), rides motorcycles, and is an avid tennis player. Oh, and he went skydiving once—why push it?
Robert Maidens, account director
We landed Robert from the Chicago office and headquarters of Leo Burnett—one of the world’s most highly respected full-service advertising agencies. At Leo Burnett he helped guide client accounts for global, national, and regional brands. His clients included Samsung, McDonald’s, Norton by Symantec, and Fifth Third Bank. For our clients he provides strategic counsel for brand development and strategy, along with production experience ranging from traditional commercial film, radio and print to anything you’d see on a mobile or desktop display. Robert and his Leo Burnett account teams’ creative awards included Interactive Bronze Pencil from The One Club, Bronze ADDY from CAF, Silver ADDY from CAF, Site of the Day and Month from FWA, The Cutting Edge from Adobe, Site of the Month from Awwwards, along with recognition and features from Creativity-Online, Contagious magazine, Google Creative Sandbox, and other organizations and publications. He’s a member of 4As, AAF, and AIGA. Oh, he’s also a scratch golfer on a mission to one day qualify for the US Amateur and US Open Championships.
Laura Gross, operations and client support manager
We take pride in concise client communication. It’s one of the many reasons we’ve been in demand for many years. Laura plays a key role to ensure communication processes are followed on our end. If you become a client, she’ll have answers to all of your questions. Her previous experience as a communications manager, marketing coordinator, and freelance artist made her uniquely qualified for her current position. Laura graduated Magna cum Laude from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Lakewood, Colorado, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. She’s passionate about volunteer experience and is a member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) to support educational opportunities for women. She also donates her artwork to help a variety of nonprofit fundraising events. As a proficient illustrator skilled in varied media including oils, acrylic, watercolor, ink and digital formats, she renders true-to-life portraits for private commissions. Ask if it’s a Mona Lisa smile, or smirk, and be prepared for a debate.
Keith Pacoma, senior designer
Keith kicks cyber ass. As a leader of our digital design team, Keith directs mobile application and website design assignments and is passionate about helping clients understand how to take their online brand to the next level. Keith goes way beyond client expectations—he’s our detail oriented, make-it-better, test-it-at-maximum-capacity guy. And he loves cars—taking them apart and seeing how they work (he’s not allowed near the copier). And while he’s no Fred Astaire, he can cut a rug. Look for Keith’s dance videos on YouTube. Janeece Pourroy, senior designer
Janeece is our connection to the digital industry’s issues and trends—particularly in regard to emerging technologies. Her job is to bring a client’s brand to life in a new exciting way. As a passionate interactive designer, she ensures outcomes are on-brand and on target. Janeece believes design is all about connection—connecting a client to the target audience and connecting the audience to the message. An assignment that reaches out and engages people is her ultimate goal. When time allows, Janeece is an avid traveler, enjoys exploring new places, and will try just about any food once. French fired bugs? Yum. South Korea now sits on the top of her favorite destination.
Don Tyler, brand strategist and writer
Don Tyler is a seasoned business marketer and writer with more than thirty years experience in brand development, positioning, messaging, and revenue generation for companies of all sizes, including Apple, Oracle, Xero, Siebel Systems, Intel, and Dell. Combining knowledgeable high-level strategy with focused campaign execution, Don also has deep experience in print, broadcast, and online advertising, Web strategy and content, and long-form deliverables including annual reports, brochures, e-Books, and magazines. Don spent time in film school at UCLA and ended up being taught how to be a Mad Man (BA Advertising, San Jose State). But before he packed his meager possessions off to NYC, he discovered the soft white underbelly of technology marketing and has worked for and with some of the most notorious CEOs and entrepreneurs in the valley. Don is also a fiction writer, currently marketing his first book, and has been known to take off to Europe to attend progressive rock concerts.
